How do I know if three phase power is available in my street?
Energex's network information can tell us what's available at your address. In most of Noosa's commercial areas and older residential streets, three phase is available. Call Steve and we can check for your address before you commit to anything.
How much does it cost to upgrade to three phase?
Cost depends on whether three phase is available at the street, the distance from the supply point to your switchboard, and what switchboard upgrades are needed. Typically the Energex connection fee plus our installation costs. Call for a site-specific quote.
How long does the upgrade take?
The electrical installation is usually done in a day. The Energex connection and any street network work is scheduled separately — this can add a few weeks depending on Energex workload and whether any network upgrades are needed.
Do I need three phase for a large solar system?
Not necessarily. Many large solar systems work on single phase. Three phase solar inverters are useful when you want to balance export across phases — particularly in commercial buildings. We can advise on whether it's worth it for your situation.
Can I still use standard single phase appliances on a three phase supply?
Yes — three phase supply includes all three single phase circuits. Your standard power points and lighting still run on 230V single phase. Three phase just adds the capacity to run higher-powered equipment as well.
