Smoke Alarm Installation Noosa

Compliant photoelectric smoke alarms installed across Noosa for rental properties and homes. We make it quick and straightforward.

Smoke Alarm Compliance in Queensland

Queensland's smoke alarm laws changed significantly in 2022, and not everyone is across what's now required. If you have a rental property in Noosa, your smoke alarms must already comply with the new legislation. If you're an owner-occupier, the deadline for compliance is January 2027 — but it makes sense to get it done now.

The new requirements are clear: interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms are required in every bedroom, in hallways outside bedrooms, and on every level of the home. Hard-wired or 10-year sealed battery. Old ionisation-type alarms and standalone (non-interconnected) alarms no longer comply.

We install compliant smoke alarms across Noosa every week — for property managers, landlords and homeowners. The job is fast, the alarms are tested and certified, and you'll have documentation to show your property manager or insurer.

Smoke Alarm FAQ — Noosa

Does my rental property already need to comply?
Yes. All Queensland rental properties were required to comply with the new smoke alarm laws by 1 January 2022. If your rental doesn't have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in all required locations, it is not compliant. We can assess and upgrade it — usually in a single visit.
What if I'm an owner-occupier — do I need to comply now?
You have until 1 January 2027, but it's worth getting it done before then for your own safety. If you sell your home before then, the new requirements kick in at the point of sale. We recommend not leaving it to the last minute.
Can I install the alarms myself?
Battery-powered interconnected smoke alarms can be installed by a competent person (homeowner), but hard-wired smoke alarms must be installed by a licensed electrician. We can install either type, and hard-wired is often the preferred option for reliability.
How many smoke alarms will my home need?
You need one in each bedroom, one in each hallway that connects bedrooms to the rest of the home, and at least one on every level of the home. We'll count the exact number needed during our site visit or quote.
Why photoelectric and not ionisation?
Photoelectric alarms detect slow, smouldering fires more reliably — the type that most commonly cause casualties at night. Ionisation alarms respond faster to fast flaming fires but can also give more false alarms from cooking. QLD legislation specifically requires photoelectric type (AS 3786).
Do you service all Noosa suburbs?
Yes — we cover all of Noosa Shire: Sunrise Beach, Sunshine Beach, Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Tewantin, Peregian Beach, Cooroy, and surrounding areas. We also cover parts of the Sunshine Coast.
